Buddhism and the Spirit Cults in North-East Thailand by S. J. Tambiah is an anthropological study of the relationship between Theravada Buddhism and traditional spirit beliefs in rural northeastern Thailand. The book examines how Buddhist practices coexist and interact with local spirit cults, rituals, beliefs, and social institutions. It shows how villagers incorporate both religious traditions into everyday life, particularly in matters of health, protection, agriculture, community, and social relationships.
