As much a work of literature as of history, this book is not a story of kings and the extension of their power but of the total human experiences of everyday life. Thus, through detailed, methodical discussions on the origins of the various people, their language and literature, daily life and social customs, arts and science, trade and commerce and religion and rituals emerges a complete vivid picture of society and its development through the passage of time. aHistory ahistory of Soth Asia India aHistory of Bengal aNiharranjan Ray.
