This book follows women attempting to achieve safety while living with or leaving abusive relationships. Paula Wilcox examines seven key dimensions that shape survivors' experiences: power, emotion, children, home, economic resources, family and friends, and community support. The book argues that domestic violence cannot be understood solely as an individual problem; poverty, gender inequality, and social structures significantly affect women's ability to escape abuse and rebuild their lives. It highlights the importance of economic independence, supportive communities, and effective social services in helping survivors achieve long-term safety.
