Originating in Finland in 1865, Educational Sloyd used school-based handicrafts to promote a holistic approach to learning through the dynamic interdependence of the mind and body. This historical study traces the evolution of Sloyd from its development by Uno Cygnaeus and Otto Salomon through its enthusiastic adoption across Europe and America. It examines how this pedagogical movement challenged conventional schooling and ultimately laid the structural foundations for modern manual arts, technical training, and technological education.
