The book examines the historical and cultural contacts between India and Ethiopia from the seventh century B.C. onward. Chatterji investigates evidence for connections through trade, migration, language, cultural exchange, and maritime contacts, drawing on historical, linguistic and literary sources.
The study is particularly significant for understanding early India–Ethiopia relations and Indian Ocean connections and explores how contacts between the two regions may have contributed to cultural and commercial exchanges. The work was originally prepared in connection with the 27th International Congress of Orientalists.
