Sahni's research was prompted by his discovery at Rohtak in 1936 of an ancient mint site containing thousands of terracotta coin moulds and unfinished coins.<br/><br/>He examines archaeological evidence from Rohtak, Taxila, Mathura, Kashi and other sites, describing different types of moulds, dies and casting processes. The work also compares Indian coin-casting techniques with methods used in China and the Roman world. |
