The book adopts a gendered approach to the Kashmir conflict and centrally engages women as agents in conflict and stakeholders in peace. It also brings a fresh understanding on the intersection of gender, conflict and peace to make the conflict discourse gender sensitive and the peace process gender inclusive.
The author demonstrates that women played significant roles in sustaining social and political movements in Kashmir—as protesters, protectors, facilitators, and motivators—even though they were largely excluded from direct combat and formal peace negotiations. The book highlights how dominant male-centered narratives have marginalized women's experiences and contributions.
